Speaking Truth to Power

Speaking truth to power
Is dangerous—you may be
Maimed, Jailed, or killed,
My friends!
Avoid bad ink.

Praise the blue sky,
Green hill and vast sea
And write and share on
Social media.

Be a name and win
A sea of accolades
From fans and followers,
And chat and drink
When the day ends
At a half-lit coffee table
In a faraway homestay.

Speaking truth to power
Is suicidal—you may be
Abused, harassed, or tied
To trees and lynched,
So, avoid bad ink
Enjoy autumn’s fleecy clouds .

I write because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, said George Orwell. As a writer, I never kowtow to the whims and dictates of the sacred godmen or godwomen, the political bigots and hypocrites, dealers of laymen, the dishonest and self-serving intellectuals, traders of religions, the betrayers of ‘other’ Indians who eke out a living by their sweat, who are living in fear for being lynched for this and that.
