The Colours of Deaths

Some die in accidents
some die in encounters
some die in wars
some in terror attacks
or freedom struggles
some die in riots
or rapes
some die of hunger
many die of diseases
some in quakes
and capsizes
some being bored
some being lonely
some being mad

Some die at a ripe age
some die just after birth
or in the womb
some succumb after
a long fight
some burnt and buried
in the wink
some sink in their sunshine

Some die in planes
some die in trains
some in the dark forests
or in seized lands
some die in city hospitals
many at country sheds

People say death is democratic
and I don’t agree
it is a reward
not to be equally shared
by the poor and the rich
by the learned and the ignorant
by the mighty and the weak

Who die? Who care?
Sorry, some deaths are celebrated,
wrapped in flags
some bodies left,
covered  with maggots, ants and worms
many and many are denied,
some make headlines
many go unseen
and many kept hidden
why?
people know all
so I refuse to repeat

I write because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, said George Orwell. As a writer, I never kowtow to the whims and dictates of the sacred godmen or godwomen, the political bigots and hypocrites, dealers of laymen, the dishonest and self-serving intellectuals, traders of religions, the betrayers of ‘other’ Indians who eke out a living by their sweat, who are living in fear for being lynched for this and that.
