Tie me not in chains of gold
For my worth is manifold.
My golden anklets moor me
to a cage with no key.
Say you it is to make my path easier
Would that not have been done if I was wiser?
If I had more time in the chrysalis
A few more years of transformation in bliss.
I am not anyone’s chattel
To be levied with taxes in battle.
I am a human, too, with potential
My own dreams and my prattle.
Silence me not
Tie me not
Into bonds of youthful matrimony,
Where I am saddled with responsibilities beyond me.
Seek you to empower me?
Give me an education
That births an ambition
And ability to soar the heavens
And not be held by social ransoms.
Set me free,
And let me be…
An uncaged bird
With dreams unfettered.
