In this book, I sensed a vision for the future of the Muslims in India that Mushirul Hasan must have dreamt of. He wanted Muslims to be a securer of justice not only for Muslims but also for the non-Muslims of the world. This is a message for global peace and communal harmony.
In cities across India, Muslims face systemic barriers when attempting to rent or buy residential space, not limited to private landlords; it permeates housing societies and real estate markets, often justified under the guise of maintaining social harmony. However, this so-called harmony is nothing more than a façade for prejudice.
Indian Muslims have been abandoned by legal and institutional frameworks, and vilified by an increasingly virulent communalism, with dark clouds of genocidal violence looming in the background.
